Rolland Rollie James Michaelson, 72, of Apple Valley, died Sunday, June 17, 2018 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital.
He was born August 29, 1945 in Jamestown, North Dakota the son of Gordon and Marion (Thompson) Michaelson. Rollie graduated from Lake Park High School in 1963 where he had been very active in sports. Rolland married Paula Midthune in 1963 and they were later divorced. He received an Associates Degree in Mechanical Drafting from Wahpeton State School of Science. He worked in Fargo, ND before accepting a job with EMR Computers and moving to Rosemount in 1970. He later moved to Apple Valley in 1975. Rollie spent his entire career in sales. He worked for Brown & Bigelow, Teledyne Post, Huber Commercial Services and Universal Cleaning Services.
Rollie loved sports and devoted a lot of his life to playing, coaching and watching sports. He was one of the founders of Valley Athletic Association and served on the board for several years. He coached Baseball, Football and Hockey for over 15 years. He was a member of Valleywood Golf Course and played on the Valleywood Men's Amateur Team. Rollie loved hunting, fishing, following and attending horse races, playing pull tabs, scratch offs and listening to music. He always enjoyed country western music while playing a game of pinochle with his family or while enjoying an evening at Camp Swampy. Family and friends were very important to Rollie and he was very loyal to his family. He cherished his grandkids and developed a unique relationship with each one. Rollie was passionate about watching his grandkids play sports.
He is survived by his children, Jeff (and Kris) Michaelson of Lakeville, Stacy (and Joe) Esposito of Minneapolis, Jason (and Corissa) Michaelson of Eagan; grandchildren, Morgan, A.J., Olivia and Ethan Michaelson, Mya and Julia Esposito, Vincent and Elena Michaelson; siblings, Gene (and Rita) Michaelson of Owatonna, Marlene (and Marlin) Larson of Chattanooga, TN, Richard (and Nora) Michaelson of Shoreview, Robert (and Ann) Michaelson of Breezy Point and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy.
Visitation will be at White Funeral Home, Apple Valley on Wednesday from 4pm to 7pm and on Thursday from 1pm to 2pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 2pm at White Funeral Home, Apple Valley with Pastor Andrea Roske-Metcalfe officiating. Interment will be in the Lake Park Lutheran Cemetery in Lake Park.
