Rona Emerson, age 90, of Kenyon, died Saturday, November 1, 2014 at the J A Wedum Residential Hospice in Brooklyn Park. Rona was born September 3, 1924 in McVille, North Dakota, the daughter of Arthur and Wilma (Farup) Quanbeck. She was raised near McVille and graduated from high school She attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis where she received her Bachelor's degree in Education. There she also met her future husband, Victor Emerson. She was united in marriage to Victor Emerson on August 7, 1948in McVille. The couple taught school for a year in Kiester. After the retirement of Victor's uncle the couple moved near Kenyon and farmed in Ellington Township. Rona worked as a legal secretary for Frank Peterson in Kenyon. Victor died March 19, 1994. Rona was a gifted painter working mostly with oils and some pastel. She painted landscapes, local settings and of their travels. Her artwork was on display at local art shows and at county fairs. Many of the 100's of pictures she painted were sold. She and Victor enjoyed traveling after their retirement. The couple traveled most throughout the United States. She is survived by her daughters, Nadine Emerson of Minneapolis; Lorene (and Donald) Dickert of Shoreview; Lavon (and Chuck) Henry of Hugo; three grandchildren, Adam (and Bethany) Dickert of Shoreview; Joseph Dickert of Shoreview and Laura (and Huck) Tate of Vadnais Heights. She is also survived by a brother, Dale (and Jeanette) Quanbeck of Grand Forks, ND. She was preceded in death by her husband Victor Emerson (1994); her parents, and a son, Arthur Emerson (2007). Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Memorial services will be held Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Hegre Lutheran Church with The Reverend Chris Brekke officiating. Interment will be in the Hegre Lutheran Cemetery in rural West Concord. Memorials are preferred to Hegre Lutheran Church or Augsburg College in memory of Rona Emerson.
