Ronald E. Houghtelin, 77 of Owatonna, died Friday, June 13, 2008 at his home. He was born February 6, 1931 in Owatonna to Elmer and Alta (Brock) Houghtelin and graduated from OHS. Ronald then served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1955. He then married Margaret Hammond on November 12, 1955 in Topeka, KS. Ron worked as a bridge inspector and surveyor for MNDOT until 1971. Then Ron and Marge distributed Shaklee products for thirty-five years. Ron had his own business as 'Ron''s Sound' and worked many years during his retirement. Ron was a member of the Waseca Senior Band, playing mainly harmonica and button accordion. He entertained at rest homes and enjoyed blue grass music jams. Ron worked many years researching genealogy and sharing family history. Ronald was a member of the American Legion and a member of the First Church of God all his life and he loved the Lord. Ron is survived by his wife Marge, daughters Pamela Beard of Naples, FL, Brenda (Tim) Stegall of Owatonna, and son Robert Houghtelin of Owatonna, grandchildren Joshua and April Sweet. He is also survived by four sisters Romayne (Richard) Moore of Owatonna, Lois (Clyde) Pope of Portland, OR, Vyonne (Tom) Long of Duluth, Carol Purcell of Boring, OR, and a brother Paul Houghtelin of St. Louis Park, and also many nieces and nephews. His parents and one sister Mavis Houghtelin preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Tuesday June 17, 2008 at 10:00 AM at First Church of God with the Reverends Neil Anderson and Scott Engelhart co-officiating. Visitation will be Monday June 16, 2008 from 5:00- 7:00 PM at Michaelson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens Cemetery with honors provided by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit.
