Roy Wayne Collette, 79, of Boise, Idaho and formerly of Owatonna, passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2018, at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna following a prolonged battle with cancer.
Roy was born on February 17, 1939, in Brainerd, Minnesota, to Roy and Viola (Nelson) Collette. The oldest of six children, Roy graduated high school in 1958 and joined the United States Air Force where he served in the Philippine Island and Omaha, Nebraska.
Roy and Beverly Kunkel were married in 1962, and spent most of their married lives in Owatonna where they raised their three sons. Roy, always outgoing and gregarious, spent his career in sales, traveling in several states. After retiring, he volunteered with Veterans Round Table and enjoyed transporting veterans back and forth to the VA hospital in Minneapolis. Roy loved his Lord and served in various roles within his church including a mission trip to Ethiopia. Those who knew him well, remember how he always encouraged others about the importance of giving back.
Roy will be remembered for the love he had for his family, his wonderful sense of humor, and the joy of life he shared with both family and friends. He is also remembered for the nation-wide story of the Pesky Pants he and his brother-in-law, Larry Kunkel shared for more than 25 years.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly (713 South Winthrop Way, Boise, ID 83709); sons, Dean of Effingham, IL, Brad (Amy) of Columbia, MO, David (Kylene) of Boise, ID; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Denny and Jeff of Brainerd; two sisters, Diane Fundanet of Brainerd and Betty Mae Shea of Knoxville, TN.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gary.
A visitation will be held at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna on Monday, November 12th from 4:00 - 7:00pm and at church one hour prior to the service. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Owatonna with The Reverend Mark Rosenau officiating followed by military honors by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit. Interment will be in Dania Cemetery in Havana Township.
Roy spent many years volunteering with Homestead Hospice House and was part of making a residence house a reality in Owatonna. The last thing on his bucket list was fulfilled when he was able to return to the house where he spent his final days. The family thanks the staff for their compassion and care during this time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Homestead Hospice House of Owatonna, Keystone Hospice Team in Boise, ID or a church/charity of choice.
