Ruben W. Brocker, 84, of Claremont, died Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Cedarview Care Center. Ruben was born February 15, 1925 in Berlin Township, the son of Paul and Clara (Willert) Brocker. He attended country school and then attended Ellendale High School graduating in 1942. Ruben then worked for the Department of Agriculture. In 1950, he entered the United States Army and served active duty during the Korean Conflict until 1952. He then served another four years in the reserve receiving his honorable discharge in 1956. Ruben was united in marriage to Jean Gaul on August 26, 1959. They purchased a farm near Pratt in 1960 and there they farmed for 40 years. Ruben also did carpentry work building homes. Jean died in January of 1998. He continued living on the farm and helped his son, Barry with delivery and installation of appliances until December 2008. He entered the Cedarview Care Center in May 2009. At a younger age Ruben enjoyed fishing. He also enjoyed playing cards, raising animals and being a farmer. He was proud to serve in the military and of his country. After retiring from farming, Ruben would build crafts and other wood projects for his grandchildren and friends. He is survived by son, Barry (and Peggy) Brocker of Claremont; three grandchildren, Samantha, Joshua and Gabrielle all of Claremont; and several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean, his parents, two sisters, Lavon and Dorothy and a brother, Gerald. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, Lemond Township with The Reverend Gary Rusinko officiating. Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Lemond Township.
