Rudolph "Rudy" G. Stursa, 83, of Owatonna, died Monday, November 12, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital. Rudy was born December 17, 1928 on the family farm in Owatonna Township, the son of Steve and Amelia (Herman) Stursa. He attended District 21, Pavek School and later Owatonna High School. On June 27, 1946 Rudy enlisted in the United States Navy and served during WWII. Rudy received his honorable discharge on April 23, 1948. He returned to the Owatonna area where he worked at a bank for a short while. He was united in marriage to Martha Dusek on June 16, 1949 at Associated Church. He worked for Northern Natural Gas Company for 33 years retiring in 1986. With Rudy''s enlistment, he wasn''t able to finish high school and through a commencement program for Veterans he received his high school diploma in 1999. Rudy was a member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the WFLA, the American Legion and lifetime member of the VFW. He loved to take fishing trips to Canada and Northern Minnesota. He also loved reading and traveling. Rudy and Martha traveled to the Czech Republic and other countries in Europe. The couple also traveled to Mexico and Hawaii. He always enjoyed new things. Rudy went white water rafting in Alaska along with his daughter and granddaughter. He also went snorkeling in Hawaii. Above all though, Rudy loved his family. He is survived by his wife Martha Stursa of Owatonna; daughter, Debbie (and Mark) Burnham of Claremont; son Dan (and Kim) Stursa of Owatonna; grandchildren Christy (and Tim Erickson) Burnham of Owatonna; Katie (and Jared) Schiller of Blaine; Breyonna Stursa of Owatonna; a great granddaughter Greta Burnham Erickson of Owatonna; sister-in-law Margie Dusek of Pine City; brother-in-law Bob (and Zanobia) Dusek of Tucson, AZ and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters Emily Petranek, Steve Stursa, Frank Stursa, Marion Wodarczak, John Stursa, George Stursa, Rose Reed and Charlie Stursa. Visitation will be held at Michaelson Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and also one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home with Father Mike Cronin officiating. Interment will be in the Bohemian National Cemetery in Owatonna. Military honors will be provided by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit.
