Obituary

Ruth Mae Ahlborn, 98, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at the Owatonna Hospital. She was born March 17, 1915 in Owatonna, Minnesota the daughter of Arthur and Lillian (Blowers) Carter. She attended country school in Merton Township and graduated from Owatonna High School in 1933. She then worked at Federated Insurance in Owatonna. Ruth married Clarence Ahlborn in 1941 and they farmed and raised Guernsey cattle in Somerset Township. They retired from farming in 1974 and continued to live on the farm. Ruth loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Ruth always brought out the best in everybody and spoke kindly of everyone. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers. She also crocheted, sewed, and was an excellent cook. Her family enjoyed many of her homemade desserts. Ruth loved her cats. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. She served as a 4-H Leader, member of the Owatonna Saddle Club, Somerset-Owatonna Neighbors Extension Club and Guernsey Breeders Association and was also involved in Al-Anon. She is survived by her three daughters, Phyllis (and Doug) Hiatt of Owatonna, Judi Thiesse of Lake Crystal, and Carol Sue Ahlborn (and Darrel Finkle) of Owatonna; thirteen grandchildren, Todd Ramer (and Lori Dalbec), Tammy Bennerotte, Tracy (and Sherry) Ramer, Teresa Johnson, Travis (and Kristi) Hiatt, Lisa Barden, Sean (and Tami) Hughes, Lance Hughes, Shannon (and Chad) Sorenson, Launa (and Jason) Helder, Jason (and Kim) Thiesse, Amanda, (and Josh) Revier, and Brianna (and Jason) Zapata; 35 great grandchildren, 17 great great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clarence (1987), brother, Harold Carter, and two sisters, Blanche Beebe and Harriette Wicklow. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Sunday, May 5, 2013 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and at St. John Lutheran Church on Monday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 6, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Klawiter officiating. Interment will be in the Steele Center Cemetery in Owatonna.
