Obituary

Ruth Ann Granny" Nelson , 94, of Faribault, died Monday, August 18, 2014 at St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault, Minnesota. She was born April 25, 1920 in Faribault, Minnesota the daughter of Ernest and Emelia (Rohloff) Boldt. She attended Faribault High School and left school to take care of her ill mother. She married Rudy Nelson on December 10, 1938 in Iowa. They made their home in Kenyon. Ruth stayed at home to raise her five children. She also assisted her husband with his business, Nelson Produce. She later worked at Faribault Woolen Mills, and was a cook at Kenyon Elementary for 15 years until her retirement in 1985. Ruth was a booster of Kenyon sports; cheering on her children and grandchildren over the years. She was an excellent cook, euchre card player, and enjoyed country music. She was an active member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, past president of VFW Auxiliary and member of Eagles. She is survived by her sons, Jim (and Thelma) Nelson of Faribault, Don (and Ellen) Nelson of Blaine, Scott (and Gail) Nelson of Byron; daughter-in-law, Donna Nelson of Rochester; son-in-law, David Burow of Kenyon; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; many extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Rudy Nelson, son, Tom Nelson, daughter, Pat Burow, grandson, Dean Burow, 9 sisters, and 3 brothers. Visitation will be at First Evangelical Lutheran Church on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 11:00 AM at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kenyon with The Reverend Luther Mathsen officiating. Interment will be in the Kenyon Cemetery in Kenyon. Memorials are preferred to First Evangelical Lutheran Church and Faribault Hospice. Michaelson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
