Obituary

Ruth Clara Parker, 95, of Owatonna, formerly of West Concord, died Monday, July 21, 2014, at Owatonna Hospital. Ruth was born February 14, 1919, in Warroad, Minnesota the daughter of Eldelbert and Alyce (Messner) Senear. The family moved to Pekin, North Dakota where she attended grade school. They then moved to Medford in 1933. She graduated from Medford High School in 1937. After high school Ruth worked at Park Drug at the lunch counter. She was united in marriage to Lyle Parker on September 13, 1937, in Owatonna. They lived in Owatonna while Lyle worked on the Rock Island Railroad. In 1940 they moved to a farm in Deerfield Township and in 1942 they bought a farm in Merton Township. Lyle died in 2003. She continued living on the farm until moving to Sterling House. Ruth was very active in the Moland Lutheran Church. She served as WELCA President and taught Sunday school. She served on the church council and circle chairman for many years. She also served as chairman of the stewardship. She had set up a quilting factory in their basement where they made many large quilts, baby quilts and sleeping bags in the winter months. She and her husband spent winter months in Prescott Valley, Arizona for 29 years. She loved farming, flowers, gardening and baking. She enjoyed her quilting friends and loved spending time with her friends. She is survived by her cousins, Milo and Pat Webb in Wisconsin and Pam and Dale Kleinschmidt of Duluth. She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle Parker; a son, Wayne; her parents; and her step father, Victor Simonson. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Owatonna on Sunday, July 27, 2014, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 28, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home with the Reverend Nancy Edwardson officiating. Interment will be in the Meadow Ridge Memorial Park Cemetery in Faribault. Memorials are preferred to Owatonna Home Care and Hospice or the Owatonna Hospital Auxiliary.
