Obituary

Ruth Constance Rhoades, 90, of Owatonna, died Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Homestead Hospice House. She was born February 13, 1928 in Ellington Township, the daughter of Ralph and Florence (Olson) Johnson. She married L. R. Dusty Rhoades on June 22, 1947 at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in Lemond Township. Ruth lived in Clinton Falls Township for over 39 years before settling in Owatonna in 1998. Ruth was a woman ahead of her time. She not only valued her family and their faith, but also made sure each of her children knew the importance of earth day, and instilled a good work ethic in each child. Besides raising her 11 children, Ruth also kept busy by baking, planning out garage sale shopping sprees, and acting as a 4-H leader for many years. Ruth was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, and during her time there was a member of Circle, the Funeral Committee, and the Board of Education. Ruth is survived by her daughters, Dian King of Owatonna, Peggy Karsten of Owatonna, Karen (Archie) Kasparek of Faribault, Rhonda Rhoades of St. Paul, Kathy (Richard) Anderson of Morristown, Nancy (Jim) Goshey of Crosby, and Sara (Keith) Hopke of Faribault; sons, Alan (Linda) Rhoades of Owatonna, Larry Rhoades of Owatonna, David (Leslie) Rhoades of Omaha, NE, and Darin (Susan) Rhoades of Ellendale; 22 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Ralph Johnson and Dennis (Judy) Johnson; and special family friend, Vicki Locklier. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; granddaughter, Courtney Goshey; brother, Eugene Johnson; son-in-law, Bill Conlin; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Johnson. Visitation will be held at St. John Lutheran Church on Sunday, December 9, 2018 from 4-6pm and one hour prior to the service. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Monday, December 10, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Jacie Richmond officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna.
