Obituary

Ruth P. Ruehling, 90, of Owatonna, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013 at Traditions I. Ruth was born December 21, 1922, in Owatonna, Minnesota, the daughter of George and Anna (Truhlar) Pichner. She graduated from Owatonna High School in 1940. She played cornet in the Owatonna High School band. She also played the drums. After high school she worked at Woolworth''s and Uber Glove factory. She met her husband Larry in 1942 and they were married January 30, 1944. They lived wherever Larry was stationed as a Navy enlisted man. In 1951 they bought a farm in Meriden Township and ran a dairy farm until they retired in 1985. Ruth was a wonderful mother who greatly loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, playing cards, particularly bridge and 500. She was active in various women''s clubs and a 4-H group leader. She and Larry square danced and also delivered meals on wheels for years. After retiring, Ruth and Larry traveled extensively and visited the capitals of almost every state. They also went to multiple Elder Hostels. In 2011 they sold the farm and moved to the Brooks in Owatonna. Ruth is survived by her husband Larry Ruehling of Owatonna; children, Roger (Jody) Ruehling of Owatonna, Ann L. Ruehling of Owatonna, Robert (Ginger Curtis) Ruehling of Three Rivers, CA; three grandchildren, Andy (Denise Franz) Ruehling, Megan (Carl) Kettunen and Kelsey Ruehling; three great-grandchildren, Noah, Hannah and Micah Kettunen. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Eva Olson; granddaughter, Sara Curtis Ruehling. Memorials are preferred to donor''s choice.
