Ruth Iris Schmidt, 85, of Crosby, died Thursday, October 24, 2024, at her home with her family by her side.

She was born December 25, 1938, in Rosemount, Minnesota the daughter of Ralph and Ruth (Johnson) Gilman. Ruth grew up and graduated from Ellendale High School. Ruth and Donald Schmidt were united in marriage on September 14, 1958, in Owatonna. They would then work side by side owning various businesses through the years before retiring.

Ruth loved to travel, go boating with family and friends, tending to her flower garden, and cooking and baking. She cherished every second she was able to spend with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They would sing their favorite songs, watch their favorite tv shows and having them help her decorate for the holidays.

She is survived by her husband Donald Schmidt of Rochester; daughters, Kelly (and Danny) Blanck of Rochester, and Koni (and Jeffrey) Sorensen of Zumbro Falls; 5 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren, and their cat, Louis.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Ruth Gliman, brother Ralph Gilman; sister Barbara Gilman; and twin grandsons, Randy Lee and John Paul.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, from 9:30AM to 11:30AM at Michaelson Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to the Steele County Humane Society.
