Sandra Katherine Ost, 87, of Owatonna, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024 at Benedictine Living Community.

She was born October 7, 1936 in Owatonna, to Ewald and Frieda (Schley) Ost. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Owatonna, where she was a lifetime member. Sandra graduated from Owatonna High School in 1955 and received a B.S. Degree from Hamline University in 1959. She also earned an MBA in 1984 from the University of St. Thomas. She worked as a medical technologist/cytotechnologist for 39 years, retiring from Regions Hospital. She returned to Owatonna and the family home where she had grown up.

Sandra was a charter member of the Minnesota Society of Cytology as well as a member of several other professional organizations, including the International Academy of Cytology. Her hobbies included reading, genealogy research, gardening, knitting, and more reading. She especially enjoyed lunches with friends-old and new.

In her retirement she was active in the Women's Club of Owatonna, chairing committees and holding the positions of Treasurer and President. She was also active in the Hospital Auxiliary, Steele County Historical Society, and her church where she sang in the choir. She served on the Scholarship Committee, Altar Guild, and was on the church counsel for 4 years.

She is survived by sister in law, Charlene Ost; nieces, Julie (and Gene) Nelson of Owatonna, Karen (and Matt) Thurnau; nephews, Chuck Ost of Wells, Bill (and Lynn) Ost of Owatonna, and Mike Ost of Oakes, ND; 11 great-nieces and nephews; 3 great-great-nieces and nephews, with one on the way; aunt and several cousins in the area.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ewald and Frieda Ost; brother, Stuart Ost.

Funeral services will be held at St. John Lutheran Church in Owatonna on Saturday, April 27th at 11AM with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna. In lieu of flowers make donations to the St. John Foundation or the Steele County History Center.
