Obituary

Sheila N. Currer, 85, of Owatonna died Monday, January 4, 2010 at Homestead Hospice House. She was born March 19, 1924 in Didsbury, South Manchester, England, the daughter of Robert and Violet (Richardson) Wroe. Sheila grew up and attended school in England. She met Robert Currer during his WWII military service there with the US Army Air Corps, and the couple married March 31, 1945 in Sheila''s hometown of Poynton, Cheshire, England. In 1946 Sheila traveled to St. Paul to re-join Robert and to raise a family, and eventually moved to Nerstrand in 1952 to begin farming with Robert. In 1974 Sheila began her nursing career, working at District 1 Hospital and Faribault Manor Nursing Home. After retirement, Sheila and Robert moved to Northfield in 1983, where Sheila was a hospice volunteer. She enjoyed travelling with Robert, both in the US and to England, and also liked gardening, knitting and animals. Robert died in 1992, and Sheila eventually moved to Owatonna in 2000. Sheila is survived by her children Diane (Harold) Kath-Schoenfeld of Owatonna, David Currer (partner Brian Evans) of Wokingham, Berkshire, England, Ron (Jane) Currer of Dennison, and Anita Currer (partner Michael Kruize) of San Jose, CA. She is also survived by eight grandsons: Marlin (Tamara) Kath, Melvin (Steph) Kath, Merlin (Rhonda) Kath, Matt (Jill) Kath, Mike (Angie) Kath, Chad (Patti) Quinnell, Ryan Quinnell, and Darren Currer, 14 great grandchildren, one sister Bette Butler of Smallfields, Surrey, England, one sister-in-law Elizabeth Wolf of Faribault, and numerous nieces and nephews both in the US and in England. Her parents, husband, two sisters and one brother preceded her in death. Visitation will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Meriden on Thursday, January 7, 2010 from 10-11AM. A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, January 7, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with The Reverend Gary Rusinko and Reverend Dean Wolf (nephew of Sheila) officiating. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to The Humane Society, Owatonna Hospice House, or a charity of the donor''s choice. Michaelson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
