Shirley Ann Jones, 81, of Owatonna, died Saturday, January 11, 2014, at the Owatonna Hospital. Shirley was born August 7, 1932, in Crookston, Minnesota, the daughter of Bryant and Bertha (Torrison) Hovet. She was raised and attended school in Fargo, North Dakota. Shirley was united in marriage to G. Walter Jones on September 5, 1948. They made their home near Glenfield, North Dakota where they farmed. In 1951, they moved to New Rockford and continued farming and in 1979 the couple moved to Warwick, North Dakota. In 1996, Shirley and G. Walter moved to Scottsbluff, Nebraska after retirement and in 2005 they moved to Valentine. G. Walter died in 2006. Shirley moved to Owatonna in 2007. Shirley loved crocheting. She made hundreds of doilies over the years for her family and friends. She also enjoyed crafting, needle point, song writing, music and was extremely handy even making kitchen cabinets in the old farmhouse. She was an avid reader and liked gardening and canning. Most importantly though, was her faith. She loved the Lord and going to church. She prayed for safe trips, good health and many other prayers for her family. She was an extremely devoted grandmother. She is survived by three sons Wayne (and Verla) Jones of Owatonna; Doug (and Debbie) Jones of Owatonna; David (and Julie) Jones of Chicago; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and two sisters-in-law Martha Hovet of Milwaukee, WI; and Vivian Jones of Indiana. She was preceded in death by her husband G. Walter Jones; a brother Marvin Hovet and her parents. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Monday, January 13, 2014, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 13, 2014, at 2:00 PM at Michaelson Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Jones officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery in New Rockford.
