Obituary

Shirley Sanborn Lee, 73, of Medford, Minnesota died Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at home. Shirley Florence Sanborn was born June 8, 1943 in Cannon City Township, Rice County, Minnesota the daughter of Edgar and Sally (Richards) Sanborn. She attended Goodhue County rural school until the family moved to Medford in 1952. She graduated from Medford High School in 1961 then continued to college at Rochester, Mankato State, and Faribault VoTech. Shirley married Ronald (Ronnie) Lee on June 2, 1962 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Medford. Together they designed and built their dream home in Clinton Falls Township. Throughout the years, Shirley worked 23 years at Owatonna Clinic, over 15 years at SPX (OTC), and 20 years at the MN State Academy for the Blind in Faribault; a job she truly loved. Shirley was active in her community including; preservation of Clinton Falls Bridge, 150th Medford Celebration, and Township Clerk. She loved spending time with her family, beloved pets, and horses. She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, and horseback riding. She is survived by her three children, Kathryn (Doug) Katzung of Shoreview, Robert (Rebecca Storjohnn) Lee of Mankato, and Barbara (Chad) Katzung of New Richland; son-in-law, Terry Erbstoesser of Stanchfield; eight grandchildren, Joseph Katzung, Carson and McLean Lee, Jessica and Michelle Katzung, and Sarah, Lilly, and Gunther Erbstoesser; sister, Arlene (Robert) Nelson of Owatonna; brother, James Sanborn of Granite Falls; sisters-in-law, Ruth Sanborn of Medford and Marie Sanborn of Rice Lake, WI. She is also survived by her dear and special nieces and nephews along with great nieces and nephews, many cousins, and dear friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie Lee (May 15, 2001); daughter, Rebecca Erbstoesser (April 6, 2013); brothers, Paul (Arlene) Sanborn and Eugene Sanborn; many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Sunday, March 19, 2017 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and at Trinity Lutheran Church, Medford on Monday from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 20, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Medford with The Reverend Mark Biebighauser officiating. Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Clinton Falls Township. May her memory bring a smile to all.
