Shirley Diane Sandberg, 76, of Owatonna, died Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Homestead Hospice House after a long and gracious battle against cancer. Shirley Diane Clark was born March 22, 1935 in Hutchinson, Kansas the daughter of Arthur and Thelma (Gass) Clark. In 1938, at the age of three, Shirley moved with her family to Owatonna and here she was raised and graduated from Owatonna High School in 1953. It was Shirley''s dream in life to be a mother and after marrying Jim Wodarczak, she had two daughters, Desiree and Linda. Jim was in the Navy and the couple moved throughout the United States and were later divorced. Shirley later married Jim Sandberg and they had a son Tom and a daughter Jami. They too later divorced. Shirley retired from Jostens in 2000 after many years of service. Shirley was a gifted and avid painter and volunteered her talents as a set decorator for the Little Theater of Owatonna. She loved crafting, decorating her home and painting holiday decorations she often gifted to her family and friends. She loved gardening and being outdoors. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family and friends, sharing her creative talents and creating happy memories. Shirley dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren. Shirley was always positive and was a constant example of dignity and grace. She is survived by three daughters, Desiree Norman of Tampa, FL; Linda Sandberg of Owatonna; Jami (and Dean) Kirchner of Owatonna; a son, Tom (and Deb) Sandberg of Lafayette, MN; a brother, Rodney "Hoot" (and Marlis) Clark of Park Rapids, MN; two sisters, Patricia Fischer of Grand Junction, CO and Joanne (and John) Pegg of Ellijay, GA. Shirley is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Nicole, Justine, Amanda, Brandon, Miranda, Ashley, Ryan, Patrick and Derek. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Marilyn Edwards. Shirley gave the gift of love and grace to all that knew her. Please join her family at an open house memorial to celebrate her life, being held Friday, September 2, 2011 beginning at 3:00 PM at 715 22nd St SE, Owatonna, MN.
