Obituary

Shirley Ann Schroeder, 74, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Homestead Hospice House. She was born September 19, 1935 in Minneapolis, Minnesota the daughter of Anders and Helene (Carlson) Ulseth. She was born the third of six children of Norwegian Immigrants, Anders and Helene (Carlson) Ulseth on September 19, 1935 in Minneapolis. The family moved to a small farm in Remer in 1938. The Ulseth's became part of the rural Remer community, the party line telephone system, the Remer School, and Bethany Lutheran Church. Shirley attended the Faribault School for the deaf proudly graduating in 1954. In 1962 she married Sidney Schroeder and settled down to raise a family in Owatonna, where Sid worked for the Owatonna Peoples Press. Her husband died in 1970 and she raised her children alone. Recently she has enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, even teaching them sign language. She was fun to tease, loved to read, and Shirley got a kick out of playing bingo and solving word find puzzles. She is survived by her children, Deb (and Tom) Grems of Owatonna, Jeff (and Sheri) Schroeder of Blooming Prairie, grandchildren Hilary, Tyler, Kristine, Jacob, Hailey, and Cody. Brothers and sisters Jim (Ruby) Ulseth Pasco, WA, Bob (Judith) Ulseth of Cook, MN, Carol (Jerry) Anschutz, and Nancy (Dennis) Stefan all of Remer, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Sidney, and sister Irene. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday from 1-2 PM. Memorial service will be held at 2PM Friday May 7, 2010 at Michaelson Funeral Home with Reverend John Weisenburger officiating. Visitation: 05/07/2010 13:00 05/07/2010 14:00 Service: 05/07/2010 14:00
