Obituary

Shirley Harriet Wagner , 88, of Owatonna, died Sunday, June 1, 2008 at Homestead Hospice House. She was born November 5, 1919 in St. James, MN the daughter of Kenneth and Dorothy Tifft Scott (Buss). Shirley grew up in Park Rapids, MN., graduating from Park Rapids High School in 1938. After high school she worked her way through Nursing School at St. Barnabas Hospital in Minneapolis and graduated as a registered surgical nurse in 1942. She married Howard Wagner in 1944 and later was divorced. During WWII, Shirley served her country as a Navy Nurse at Great Lakes Navel Hospital and in San Diego, CA. She worked for the Indian Service from 1948-1954 in hospitals in White Earth and Cass Lake. In 1954-1960 she worked at Hubbard County Hospital and continued her Indian Service in Ponsford. Shirley moved to Owatonna in 1960 where she worked at the Owatonna Elementary School System until retiring in 1985. She had a lot to do with getting our Special Education and Preschool Screening programs started in our schools. Shirley was a member of the American Legion and supported and volunteered in many organizations such as Cancer research, Alzheimer research, the American Red Cross, Blood Bank and Semcac volunteer driver program and many more. Shirley enjoyed; bowling, traveling, Christian Women, Bible studies and helping others. Her strong belief in our Lord and Savior has touched many in troubled times and good times. She loved her family and shared so many of her favorite pastimes, one being traveling. Shirley had a wonderful outlook on life and the beauty this world provides. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Homestead Hospice Staff. Shirley is survived by her son; Robert (and Mid) Wagner of Keokuk, IA., daughter, Judy (and Mickey) Johnson of Owatonna; two grandsons, David (and Michelle) Johnson of Kasson, Ricky (and Terah) Johnson of River Falls, WI., two great-grandchildren; Tyler and Allison Johnson, one sister; Dorothy (and Jim) Enfield of Osage, one nephew; Stephen Enfield and one niece, Lori Enfield; grand nephews, Matthew and Michael Enfield. She was preceded in death by one brother, William K. Scott. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Thursday, June 5 from 5-8PM. Funeral services will be held at Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church on Friday at 10AM with one hour of visitation prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
