Sidney V. Boreen, 94, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Homestead Hospice House. Sid was born January 2, 1915 in Lindstrom, Minnesota the son of Edwin and Jennie (Carlson) Boreen. In 1920 he and the family moved to Pine City, MN. There he was raised and graduated from Pine City High School in 1931 and attended Minneapolis Business College graduating in 1933. He worked in the accounting department at Munsingwear in Minneapolis until September of 1941 at which time he was drafted into the United States Army. He received a Commission in October of 1942 and then went overseas where he served for two and one half years in the Western Pacific. He was transferred to the inactive reserve in December of 1945 where he served until January 1975 and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was a member of the American Legion, the Elks and a Life Member of the V.F.W. In December 1945, he returned to civilian life at Munsingwear as a production control supervisor. He was united in marriage to Edna Sandberg on March 25, 1950 in Grasston, MN. They then moved to Owatonna and joined his brother, Don in the operation of a Surge dairy equipment franchise. He purchased his brother''s share in 1970. Sid was joined by his son Ron in 1973 who then purchased the business in 1980. Sid and Edna enjoyed traveling to points of interest in various areas and spent some winter months in Arizona. He also enjoyed pheasant hunting, duck hunting and fishing in the Boundary Waters for walleye and Lake Michigan for salmon. Sid survived by his wife, Edna of Owatonna, a son, Ronald (and Julie), two daughters, Nancy (and Mike) Borchert and Patricia (and Ronnie) Blakstad all of Owatonna. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Korey (and Tanya) Borchert, Melissa (and Daniel) Tellijohn, Anthony Blakstad, Amy (and Bryant) Wencl; five great grandchildren, Layla and Ethan Borchert, Maiah, Elijah and Isaiah Tellijohn all of Owatonna and a sister, Millie Lutter of Cloquet, MN. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Jon Boreen, two brothers, Einer and Donald and his parents. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday, May 29, 2009 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church with The Reverend Julie Malone officiating. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Owatonna.
