Obituary

Stanley Paul Gilman, 74, of Owatonna, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at his home with his family by his side after a long battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was born October 18, 1942 in Dodge Center the son of George and Ethel (Schleeter) Gilman. Stanley was a 1961 graduate of Dodge Center High School where he met the love of his life Judy Thorager. He served in the US Navy from 1962-1965. While home on leave, Stan married Judy Thorager on August 3, 1963 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bixby. The couple moved to California while he finished his military service. The couple just celebrated their 54th Wedding Anniversary. Stan had a long career as a Journeyman Electrician with IBEW Local 343. He loved woodworking at home in his shop, teaching his children and grandchildren how to create many useful and decorative things out of wood. He enjoyed several hunting and fishing trips with his sons. Stan taught gun safety training for many years. He was a 4-H leader, volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Toys for Tots and at the Aurora Diner cooking and serving. He loved birds and bird watching, gardening, flowers, his apples trees, Western and Sci-Fi movies, reading, attending church services and socializing after worship, puzzles and traveling. Stan and Judy traveled to all 50 states and Canada, enjoyed eight cruises together and the trips they would take with their entire family. Over the years Stan cherished the special time he would have with his family. From the many hours of playing in the backyard with his children to the special Valentines day events he would plan with his grandchildren. Stan loved his cats, Meesha, who spent countless hours with him in his shop and Ceasar, always laying by Stan's side. He is survived by his wife, Judy Gilman of Owatonna; children, Gloria (and Kevin) Springborg of Owatonna, Pamela (and Robert) Gullickson of Rochester, Steven (and Becky) Gilman of Owatonna, Scott (and Kathy Olivo) Gilman of Montgomery, Jeffrey Gilman of Owatonna; 22 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sister, Bev (and Jerry Boudoin) Jorde of Chatfield; brothers, George (and Doris) Gilman of Dodge Center, Floyd (and Geri) Gilman of New Brighton and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 1 brother, 4 grandchildren and a son-in-law. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Saturday from 4pm to 7pm and at Our Savior's Lutheran Church on Sunday from 1pm to 2pm. Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 13, 2017 at 2pm at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with The Reverend John Weisenburger officiating. Memorials are preferred to Our Savior's Lutheran Church Weekend Pantry, St. Croix Hospice or to the donor's choice.
