Steven Steve Wayne Hortop, 58, of Owatonna, died Monday, March 20, 2017 at Valley View of Owatonna. Steve was born October 29, 1958 in Owatonna, Minnesota the son of Howard and Cologne (Jensen) Hortop. He attended Owatonna High School. Steve worked as a manager for the area Kwik Trips for many years along with managing restaurants and convenience stores in the Owatonna and Faribault area. In the past few years, Steve lived in Arizona and the southwest region. He recently returned to Owatonna where he resided with his mother. Steve loved spending time in the kitchen cooking and making meals for his family and friends. He was a long time softball and baseball umpire in Owatonna and Faribault, and excellent bowler; a sport he started at a young age with a career achievement of a 300. Steve enjoyed art, sports, and traveled to all 50 states. He is survived by his mother, Cologne Hortop of Owatonna; daughters, Melissa Hortop of Owatonna and Danielle Hortop of Faribault; grandchildren, Damian and Korah Hortop; siblings, Gary (Donna) Hortop of Owatonna, Lori (Mark) Gedicke of Medford, and John (Sue) Hortop of Faribault; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Howard; infant daughter, Megan; and grandparents. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday, March 24, 2017 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home with Reverend Henry Doyle officiating. Interment will be in Owatonna Memorial Gardens.
