T. Vincent Benson, 81, of Kenyon, died Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Kenyon Sunset Home. T. Vincent (Vince) Benson was born in Red Wing, MN on a May 6, 1928 to Theresa and Thomas G. Benson. He was raised on the family farm and attended Kenyon Township School and Kenyon K-12 Public School. He graduated from Kenyon Public School in 1945 and then attended the University of Minnesota where he received an Agricultural Engineering degree. In 1950 Vince met and married Darlene Elma Hagen. They briefly resided in Huron, SD. In 1952 they returned to Minnesota, eventually settling in the Kenyon area where Vince served area farmers in farm ground drainage. In 1983 Vince and Darlene returned to South Dakota where Vince took employment with the Federal Government Bureau of Indian Affairs, Road Engineering Division. Upon retirement the couple once again returned to Kenyon. Vince enjoyed many outdoor activities, but had a true passion for fishing. He also loved his garden. Vince liked a good game of cards and polka music. Vince is survived by two sons, Tom (Kathy) of Seattle, WA, Ty (Beverly) of Chatfield, MN, a daughter Sandra (Curt) Werner of Elk River, MN, a sister, Muriel Steberg of Wanamingo, nine grandchildren, Ali and Chelsea Benson, Jesse, Sam and Grant Benson, Jordin Splittstoeser, Jansen, Lucas and Landon Werner, also several nieces and nephews. Vince was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Theresa, three brothers Eugene, Orlano and Curtis. Two nephews, Butch and David Benson and most recently his beloved wife of 58 years Darlene. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 1:00 PM at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kenyon with The Reverend Luther Mathsen officiating.
