Thomas Scott Carlsen, 55, of Kenyon, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at his home in Kenyon. He was born September 5, 1958 in Faribault, Minnesota the son of Harry and Alice (Overby) Carlsen. He was the youngest of five children. He was a 1977 graduate of Kenyon High School where he excelled in track and sang in choir. He married Carolyn Whitney in August of 1979 and in their union had two children, Anne and Travis. They later divorced. Tom lived in Kenyon most of his life. He worked at Foldcraft, Peterson Ford, and was currently employed at Minnesota Mattress Company in Kenyon. Tom was the caretaker at Roseview Apartments, a position he took over after his father''s death in 2003. Tom loved to hunt, fish, and spend time at the family cabin on French Lake. He cheered on all Minnesota sports teams. He had a good sense of humor and gentle spirit. He was self taught on the guitar and enjoyed singing. He was also very inventive and creative with his hands. He was a member of Gol Lutheran Church and Kenyon Country Club. He is survived by his children, Anne Carlsen and Travis Carlsen of San Angelo, TX; grandson, Curtis Carlsen; three sisters, Susan Albright of Medford, OR, Nancy (and Kim) Loftsgaarden of Prior Lake, Mary (and Morrie) Hjermstad of Wanamingo; three aunts, Toots Meyer, Jean Overby, and Rosie Strandemo all of Kenyon; eleven nieces and nephews; many cousins and friends; special fishing and hunting buddies; special adopted family, the Matt Kern family; and his loving feline friend Cat. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, brother, Jim, aunts, uncles, cousins, and beloved dog, Iggy. Visitation will be at Gol Lutheran Church on Friday, April 4, 2014 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Funeral services will be held April 4, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Gol Lutheran Church with Pastor Marvin Kormann officiating. Interment will be in the Gol Lutheran Cemetery. In memory of Tom, memorials are preferred to the family or donor''s choice. Michaelson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
