Thomas C. DeReus, 60, of Owatonna, died Thursday, April 7, 2011 at his home. Thomas Craig DeReus was born December 6, 1950 in Owatonna, Minnesota the son of Harold and Barbara (Finch) DeReus. Here he was raised and attended school graduating from Owatonna High School in 1969. He then attended Mankato State University and later returned to Owatonna. He was employed with Pamida and worked in Owatonna and later in Iowa and Wyoming. He married Carol Cartin on October 1, 1978 at First Baptist Church, Owatonna. He worked for NAPA. Thomas entered the United States Army in 1984 and served as a recruiter, correctional specialist and with the military police. Shortly after joining the Army, the couple moved to Lawrence, KS and lived there from 1985 until 1990. They moved back to Owatonna and he went back to work with NAPA and then began driving truck. The couple divorced in 1995. Recently Tom was OTR truck driver for Mcd Express in Faribault. He is survived by a son, Matthew DeReus of Shoreview; his mother, Barbara DeReus of Owatonna; and a brother, David (and Eileen) DeReus of Minnetonka. Thomas was preceded in death by a son, Mark DeReus (1989); and his father, Harold (2003). Visitation will be at First Baptist Church on Monday, April 11, 2011 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Memorial services will be held Monday, April 11, 2011 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church with The Reverend Cindy Halvorson officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Owatonna.
