Thomas (Tom) A. Freeburg, age 69, died peacefully on April 30, 2022 at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN.
He is survived by his best friend and wife, Mary; his children, Sara (Nick), Dusty (Taylor), Morgan (Brian), William; and his much-adored grandson Kellen Thomas. Surviving siblings include Chuck (Cici), Barbara (Jerry), Jim, Ken (Kim), John (Lisa), Bob, and Bill (Jennie). Followed by mother-in-law Grandma Jan and many nieces and nephews.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents James and Louise Freeburg.
On May 5, 1952 in Rochester, MN, Tom was born to parents Jim and Ellie Freeburg. He graduated from Owatonna High School in 1970. After college at Mankato State University, he moved to Palm Desert, CA and worked as an assistant golf professional at the Sunrise Country Club. Tom moved back to Minnesota to help his dad, Jim, run the State Bank of Medford, where he became the president. He was also president of First State Bank in Newport, MN. He started his independent insurance career by creating the Freeburg Agency. That led him to work with Fish and Shulkamp and Ensure Agency of Hastings, MN with whom he had a long-standing career. Tom prided himself in knowing that all his customers were his friends.
Tom was humbled and honored to be inducted into the Owatonna Hall of Fame for his six year Letterman award in golf, Letterman awards in hockey, and Most Valuable Hockey Player his senior year. His passions for hockey and golf carried throughout his life. He was a successful hockey coach and winner of multiple club championships at various golf courses. Sharing golf with family and friends was one of Tom's most revered activities.
Family and friends will always remember how Tom cherished life and loved people. His big smile, infectious laugh, generosity, and loyal friendships will live on through all who remember him.
A Celebration of Life will take place June 4, 2022 at the Owatonna Country Club from 3-7pm.
