Todd Galen Deming, age 65, of Owatonna, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 2, 2025. He was born on March 5, 1960, the third son of Sterling and Shirley Deming (née Krause). He grew up on the family farm in Claremont, MN, and graduated from Owatonna High School in 1978.
Todd was a proud (retired) member of the Local #6 Plumbers and Pipefitters of Rochester; he enjoyed spending many years managing sites on new-construction projects throughout the Twin Cities, southern Minnesota, and South Dakota. Todd was a longtime member of the Elks Lodge #1395 and the Eagles Club #1791 in Owatonna. He was a committed volunteer at the Elks and appreciated conversing with many friends at both clubs.
He will be remembered by many for the extreme benevolence of his time and skills, his willingness to offer advice. He would do anything to help neighbors, friends, family, and strangers alike. Todd was known for his cleverness and curiosity for how things worked and enjoyed tinkering in the garage while listening to ball games on the radio. He found deep meaning in the love and care he provided for his family and friends; his acts of kindness and generosity were inspirational and contagious. For many years, he spent much of each January in various cities in Mexico with a great group of friends, of whom he thought the world. Papa Todd loved and cherished his time spent with grand and great grandchildren.
Todd is survived by his son Andrew (Monica) Deming of Plymouth, MN, son Casey Deming of Minneapolis, MN, stepdaughter Ashley Sands of Owatonna, and stepdaughter Lisa (Adam) Chapek of Elkton, MN. He was the loving grandfather to Megan Caywood (Cameron Miller); Dorothy, Rose, and Sterling Deming; and Liam and Lyle Chapek; and loving great grandfather to King and Ivy Miller. He is also survived by brother Michael (Judy) Deming of Plant City, FL, brother Steven (Sara) Deming of Owatonna, and sister Melissa (Mark) Lopau of Faribault, MN, along with many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents Sterling and Shirley, his nieces Christine Davis and Belinda Deming, brother-in-law Randy Schlobohm, father-in-law and friend Ronald C. Hanson, and great-niece Cadence Schlobohm.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Owatonna at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Owatonna Memorial Gardens.
