Velera E. Beier, 90, of Owatonna, died Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Cedarview Care Center. She was born September 1, 1920 in Deerfield Township, Steele County, Minnesota the daughter of John and Hattie (Hoffman) Anhorn. She attended country school and then moved to Owatonna where she worked at various businesses. She married Robert Beier on November 14, 1945. They lived in Owatonna then moved to Meriden Township where they farmed. In 1978, they made their home in Owatonna. Velera loved flower gardening and vegetable gardening. She also enjoyed fishing, traveling, and playing cards. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by her son, William (and Cheryl) Beier of Owatonna; two grandchildren, Krista (and Tony) Black of Eden Prairie, and Robert Beier of Owatonna. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert, daughter, Rosemary, and six siblings, Lorinda Steinbauer, Mildred Heinz, Arnel Anhorn, Marvin Anhorn, Viola Srsen, and Chester Anhorn. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Thursday, August 11, 2011 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and at St. John Lutheran Church on Friday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM . Funeral services will be held Friday, August 12, 2011 at 11:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Klawiter officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna.
