Vera Celestine Hafstad, 86, of Owatonna, died Friday, March 11, 2016 at Medford Senior Care in Medford, Minnesota. Vera was born May 24, 1929 in Tigerton, Wisconsin the daughter of Bert and Doris (Simpson) Alberg. Vera graduated from Tigerton High School and was a member of the Girl's Glee Club. She then attended Augsburg College and the Lutheran Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated in 1952. Vera married Erick Hafstad on August 14, 1954 in Tigerton Wisconsin. They made their home in Lemond Township where they farmed until their retirement in 1990. Vera was active at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church, as a Sunday School Teacher and Bible Study. She enjoyed playing the piano, knitting scarves, quilting, and cross stitch. She made many tablecloths and gave them to her children, grandchildren, family and friends. Vera also enjoyed taking walks down the lane, picking up rocks and collecting them. She is survived by her five children, David (and Norma) Hafstad of Ellendale, Ruth (and Steve) Weigt of Medford, Sandra (and Mike) Easterday of Adrian, Marcia (and David) Fjordbak of Owatonna, and Mark (and April) Hafstad of Owatonna; twelve grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; two brothers, Bernard (and Bess) Alberg of Kenosha, WI and Robert (and Lorna) Alberg of Wittenberg, WI; sister-in-law, Peggy Alberg of Minnetonka; many nieces, nephews, and extended family. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Erick; infant grandson, Gerald Eggers; sister, Marion Holm; two brothers, George and Edward Alberg. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and at Bethel Church on Wednesday from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 10:30 AM at Bethel Church with The Reverend Michael Simmerman officiating. Interment will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery in Ellendale.
