Vern E. Butch McGregor, 66, of Owatonna, died Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at Owatonna Hospital. He was born October 13, 1952 in Owatonna the son of Vern W. and Elizabeth (Wagner) McGregor. Butch attended Owatonna High School. He worked for the Owatonna Elevator in the feed mill and delivered turkey feed. He loved harvest time when farmers would come to town to the elevator. Butch then became an owner operator hauling for local elevators. Butch married Nancy Skalicky on Dec 27, 1971 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owatonna. In September of 1978 he started his career driving truck for Yellow Freight retiring in 2009. Butch loved hot rods and building engines. The faster the better! He was often heard out on Highway 14 in his Chevelle, "cleaning the carbon out" as he told his wife after she heard him going through each gear. Butch was a member of Super Streets Unlimited and Hiawathaland Corvette Club. Butch loved spending time in his garage and having friends drop in and BS. He always had a cold Sierra Mist in the cooler on ice for them. Butch loved going for rides in the country, often gone for hours listening to Tom Petty on the radio. He dearly loved his family and will leave a huge hole in their hearts. He is survived by his wife, Nancy McGregor of Owatonna; daughter, Joley Podein of Owatonna; son, Rob (and Andrea) McGregor of Owatonna; granddaughter, Calbey Jo Podein; sisters, Mary Katherine King of Owatonna, Janet Wright of Owatonna, June (and Kevin) Sullivan of Rochester; brother, Dr. Nick (and Deb) McGregor of Owatonna and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Sunday, December 9, 2018 from 5pm to 8pm and at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Monday from 10am to 11am. Memorial services will be held Monday, December 10, 2018 at 11am at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father James Starasinich officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Owatonna.
