Verna Mae Johnson, 86, of Owatonna died on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Mayo St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester
Verna was born the daughter of Verd and Alice (Sheeley) Classon on June 4 1937, in Guckeen, MN. She grew up in the Austin area and graduated from Rose Creek High School in 1955. She continued her education at Austin Community College. On October 11, 1957, she was united in marriage to Dennis Johnson in Rose Creek. They moved to Owatonna where she stayed home to raise her children until they reached school age. Verna then worked at Jostens as a data processor for 29 years until she retired. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She volunteered at the food shelf and at her church. Verna embroidered items to be sold to support the Senior Center. The family enjoyed camping at their place on French Lake. Verna enjoyed playing cards with family and her card clubs. She was a fabulous cook and baker and will be remembered as a meticulous homemaker. Her family was the most important thing in her life and she cherished becoming a grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by her husband Dennis Johnson of Owatonna; children Deanna Johnson of Farmington, Darla Johnson of St. Paul, Steven Johnson of Owatonna; grandchildren Kindra Tapp of Claremont and Hannah Johnson of Owatonna; great grandchildren Damien Koning, Kennedy Gibbons, Sophia Garza and Ezekiel Garza. She is also survived by her brother Gary (Eileen) Classon of Lakeland, sister-in-law Alla Lee Classon, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Arvid (Bonnie) Classon and Howard Classon.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home and a memorial service will be at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery. Memorials to Community Pathways are preferred.
