Veryl David Morrell, 67, of Madison Lake, died of chronic health issues on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato. He was born July 31, 1950 in Minneapolis, the son of Veryl and Ruth (Danberry) Morrell. He attended grade school in Madison Lake and high school in Owatonna, graduating in 1968. Throughout the 1970's and 80's, he served as a licensed peace officer working for the Owatonna Police and Steele County Sheriff's Departments. In the late 1980's, Veryl pivoted to the next phase of his career taking a code enforcement position with the Steele County Planning and Zoning Department. In the early 1990's, Veryl and Audrey moved to Kingman, AZ where he served as Zoning and Planning Administrator for Mohave County. They returned to Minnesota in 1994 where Veryl earned a degree in Building Inspections. Upon graduation, in 1996, Veryl accepted a position with the Blue Earth County Planning and Zoning Department where he worked until his retirement in 2009. Veryl had a life-long love for cars. He raced the dirt-track circuit in southern MN in his younger years and owned several 1955 Chevrolet cars, including his current coral and gray car. He and Audrey spent many years traveling the country on their Honda Goldwing motorcycles. Veryl was a member of Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato and the Eagles Club in Owatonna. He is survived by his wife Audrey Morrell of Madison Lake; daughter, Christine (and Troy) Laue of Nerstrand; son, David (and Roxanne) Morrell of Blaine; eight grandchildren; sister, Nancy Morrell of Menomonie, WI and Naomi (and Bill) Gasner of Owatonna and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by parents, Veryl and Ruth. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, December 8, 2017 at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato with visitation one hour prior. Reverend Michael Omtvedt will officiate. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna at a later date. Memorials are preferred to American Heart Association.
