Victor Arnold Richardson, loving husband and father, passed away peacefully Wednesday after a long and courageous battle with Frontal Temporal Dementia (FTD).
Vic was born on March 10, 1944. He grew up on a small family farm in Spring Valley, MN and graduated from high school in 1962. He married the love of his life, Clarice Lindeman, on May 31, 1969.
In addition to his family and church, Vic was deeply committed to the farming community. He graduated from the U of M in 1966 with a Bachelor's degree and in 1978 with a Master's Degree in Agricultural Education and held educational positions, first in Jeffers, MN and then in Owatonna and Austin, MN. He was passionately involved in the FFA, FarmAmerica and many other agricultural organizations on a local, state and national level. He dedicated his life to saving family farms, received many awards and honors over the years for his work, and was eventually inducted into the FFA Hall of Fame in 2013. Vic was also a Farm Tax Specialist, conducting and producing seminars and educational materials.
Vic was also a member of the Steele County Exchange Club and was a very active member of St. John's Lutheran Church for over 40 years. In his free time, he enjoyed collecting and over the years he amassed many stamps, coins, tractors, pigs, pencils and more. Vic also enjoyed being the master of his charcoal grill. The family favorite was his pork burgers.
Vic was preceded in death by his parents Douglas and Anna Richardson, his sister Linda Peterson, and his grandson Kaidin Staska Richardson Minowa.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Clarice Richardson, his two daughters, Melanie Estes-Proulx (Mark) and Janelle Sorensen (Adam), his son, Craig Richardson Minowa (Connie), his ten grandchildren, and one great grandchild, as well as his sister, Jean Post (Garry), and many nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Birchwood Cottages in Owatonna where Vic spent the last year of his life. The entire staff was so very accommodating, compassionate, and generous, giving over and above what they were required to give, truly giving from their hearts. Our family feels blessed that Vic could spend his final 15 months under their care.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 10 at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna from 4-7pm. Services will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church Saturday November 11 at 11am with a one hour visitation before the service and a luncheon following. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the ALS Association, given their strong involvement with familial FTD research. The address for donations is 333 North Washington Ave Suite 105, Minneapolis, MN 55401.
