Virginia Ann Zwiebel, 87, of Owatonna, passed away while visiting with family on Thursday, November 27, 2014 at her residence.
Virginia was born March 7, 1927 in Waconia, Minnesota the daughter of Clarence and Elvira (Bergman) Ortlip. She attended Waconia High School and graduated in 1945. Virginia moved to St. Paul to attend the University of Minnesota where she met John Zwiebel. After receiving their teaching degrees, Virginia and John were united in marriage June 30, 1950.
The couple made their home in New Richland, Minnesota where Virginia taught high school Home Economics. In 1953, the family moved to Owatonna to raise their six children. Virginia was an active member of the community continuing to teach as a substitute in Owatonna, Medford, and Claremont and volunteering as a 4-H leader, Girls Scout and Cub Scout Leader, assisting the Hospital Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels, Contact and supporting the Owatonna Arts Center and Senior Center. Virginia was a member at Redeemer Lutheran Church and the church choir. Virginia's passion for learning led to numerous travel and reading adventures.
Virginia is survived by her children, John (and Kathi Lee) Zwiebel of Kalaheo, HI; Carol (and Pete Margitan) Zwiebel of Seattle, WA; James Zwiebel of Clute, TX; Robert (and Liz) Zwiebel of Winona; Zandra (and Scott Risdal) Zwiebel of Duluth; six grandchildren, Jennifer (and Bill) Hansson; Kelsey (and John) Schultz; Steve Margitan; Mat (and Cassie) Zwiebel; Caitlin Margitan; Alexandra Risdal; two great grandchildren, Will and Emily Hansson; and her sister, Jean (and Al) Tobey of Cave Creek, AZ. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, John Zwiebel; her parents; a daughter, Mary; and brothers, Earl and Ronald.
The family extends special thanks and appreciation to the staff at Traditions of Owatonna II.
Visitation will be at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Monday, December 8, 2014 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 8, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Redeemer Lutheran Church with The Reverend Kirk Griebel officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to Redeemer Church, IRC, Contact.
