Wally "The Riz" Risberg, 68, of Owatonna, passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
He was born May 13, 1955 in Owatonna, Minnesota the son of Roy and Violet (Langer) Risberg. Wally grew up in Owatonna and graduated from Owatonna High School in 1973, before joining the United States Navy. He served from August 1976 to December 1979, and after his service he attended Albert Lea Technical College. Wally and Mary met at a dance where he was performing, and on May 1st, 1982 they were united in marriage at Christ the King Church in Medford. A "Class A Professional Driver" Wally worked at Cemstone for over 27 years and retired in June 2020. He also was a drummer in The Wanderers, and Tropical T-Birds for over 20 years. Wally was known to be a social person and could walk into a room and talk to anyone about anything. Over the years he was very active in sports playing and coaching hockey, tennis, broomball, curling, men's volleyball and he was an avid golfer. He loved to ride his bike, and many times would meet with a bike group to go for a ride. Wally was very proud of his two boys and his granddaughter, and he called them his pride and joy. He would always end a conversation with, "Be Well."
He is survived by his wife Mary Risberg of Owatonna; son, Eric (Brienna Hocum) Risberg and granddaughter Reese Risberg of Minneapolis; son, Alex Risberg of Owatonna; sister, Karen Rogers of Florida; and several in-laws, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Violet Risberg; sisters, Lois Risberg and Donna Deets.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Thursday, December 21st, 2023 from 12PM to 2PM, with the funeral service starting at 2PM at Michaelson Funeral Home. Pastor Todd Buegler will be officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna. People that attend the funeral are encouraged to wear golf attire.
