Walter Baumgartner Jr., 84, of Kenyon, died Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born May 25, 1925 in Austin the son of Walter and Dorothy (Gifford) Baumgartner. Walter''s mother died at his birth and he was raised by his father and stepmother, Harriet. Walter married Marie Smith August 26, 1945 in Waltham. The couple farmed near Waltham prior to moving to Austin where he worked for Marigold Dairy. In the mid 1950's the family moved to rural West Concord where they farmed together. In 1993 Walter Marie moved from the farm to West Concord and later in 2009 to Kenyon. Walter enjoyed fishing and an occasional trip to the casino. His life was devoted to his family and farm. He worked on the farm until he was 83 years old. Walter's family enjoyed his sense of humor and the time he devoted to them. Walter is survived by his wife, Marie Baumgartner of Kenyon; son, Stanley Baumgartner of West Concord; grandchildren, Christine Baumgartner, Brandon Baumgartner, Brent Baumgartner; great grandson, Cade Herman; brothers, Darrell (and Margaret) Baumgartner of Owatonna, Emerson (and Lois) Baumgartner of Austin, Laverne Baumgartner of Los Angeles, CA, Lowell Baumgartner of Goshen, IN; sisters, Bernice (and Quentin) Gosksen of Austin, Eleanor (and David) Grass of Los Angeles, CA, Arlene (and Pete) Olson of Grand Meadow, Judy (and Gene) Ziese of Owatonna, Cheryl (and Ken) Stevenson of Pine Island, Arla (and Larry) Rasmussen of West Concord, Ardella (and Tim) Chladek of Rochester, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, an infant sister and 1 niece. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon on Sunday from 3pm to 5pm and at Hegre Lutheran Church on Monday from 9:30am to 10:30am. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 22, 2010 at 10:30am at Hegre Lutheran Church with Pastor Richard Hegal officiating. Interment will be in the Concord Cemetery in Concord Township.
