Obituary

Wayne D. Moore, 85, of Medford, died Sunday, April 1, 2012 at his home under the care of hospice and with his family at his side. Wayne was born May 10, 1926 in Jefferson, Iowa the son of Elmer and Mary (VanKirk) Moore. The family moved to Hollandale, Minnesota where the family farmed the fertile lakebed growing vegetables. Wayne was united in marriage to Margie Winjum on June 16, 1944 in Northwood, IA. He served in the United States Army at the end of WWII. After receiving his honorable discharge, the couple moved to Freeborn County. They purchased a home across from the Lerdal Creamery and owned and operated The Pop Shop. Later they purchased a farm near Lerdal. In 1959, the couple moved near Medford. Through the years he served on the Congregational Church Board, the Medford School Board and the Steele County Zoning Board. He also was on the Minnesota Pork Producer''s Association Swine Honor Roll in 1972. Wayne enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, fishing and camping. He and Margie spent many years as winter snowbirds in Southern Texas. He is survived by his wife Margie Moore of Medford; two daughters, Colleen Ripka of Medford; Nancy (and Joel) Flemke of Pine Island; a son, Tom (and Mona) Moore of Owatonna; seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Bruce Moore, two brothers and two sisters. Visitation will be held at Michaelson Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and also one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held at Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church, Owatonna on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Brian Wright officiating. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to donor''s choice.
