Wilbert Willard Samuel Giese, 80, of Owatonna, died Thursday, December 3, 2009 at Homestead Hospice House of cancer. He was born June 26, 1929 in Elgin, North Dakota the son of Samuel and Julia (Kautz) Giese. He was united in marriage to Joan Sebastian on July 23, 1950 in Elgin, North Dakota. He served in the United States Army in Germany from 1951-1952. After his honorable discharge, he worked for Armco Steel in Mandan, ND. They moved to Owatonna, MN in 1967 and here he worked for Owatonna Canning Company as a Quality Control Supervisor. He retired in 1993. He then worked part time in his retirement for the Canning Company. He was a member of the American Legion, Elks, Eagles, lifetime member of the VFW, and volunteered at Senior Place. Wilbert enjoyed woodcarving, traveling, and golfing. He was a member at Trinity Lutheran Church for over forty years where he would also usher for services and was involved with bible study. He enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends. He is survived by daughter, Londa (and David) Johnson of Hayfield, MN, son Bill (and Denise) Giese of Grand Rapids, MN, six grandchildren Casey and Amanda Johnson, Zachary, Madison, Alexis, and Danica Giese. Three sisters Hertha Beeney of Houston, TX, Olivia Miller and Nelda Vilhauer both of Bismarck, and many nieces and nephews also survive Wilbert. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joan of fifty-eight years who died in June of this year, brother Reuben, and sister Elsie Dinyer. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Monday December 7, 2009 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and at Trinity Lutheran on Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 AM. Funeral service will be held Tuesday December 8, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church with The Reverend Julie Malone and Reverend Larry Giese co- officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Bus Fund, or Homestead Hospice Patient Care Fund.
