Obituary

William Alvin Holtman, 91, of Owatonna, died Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Cedarview Care Center. He was born September 30, 1919 in Quincy, Illinois the son of Louis and Lydia (Reuther) Holtman. William attended schools in Quincy, Il, Milwaukee, WI and Minneapolis. He graduated from Anoka High School in 1937 and was a member of the National Honor Society. He joined the US Maritime Service in Oct. 1942 and the US Naval Reserve in Nov. 1942. William attended radio school in Boston, MA in 1943 and began active sea service in Dec 1943. He served as Chief Radio Officer on 5 merchant ships deployed throughout the Pacific Theatre until 1945. He has held his FCC Radio Operator license since 1943. He began working at Northwest Airlines in Dec 1945 as a radio operator in Helena, MT. He married Mola Hill January 24, 1946 in Great Falls, MT. William worked as an electronics instructor from 1963 to 1968 at Northwestern Institute in Minneapolis. He then worked for Canteen Co of Minnesota until becoming self employed in 1975. William, along with his wife, moved to Owatonna in 1986 during their retirement. William is survived by his son, Tom Holtman of Waterville; nephew, John Daline; niece, Mary Brick. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mola and sister, Annette Daline. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Monday from 9:30am to 10:30am. Memorial services will be held June 27, 2011 at 10:30am at Michaelson Funeral Home. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna.
