William Charles Hannah, 68, of Owatonna, died Monday, October 7, 2013 at Homestead Hospice House. He was born October 8, 1944 in St. Paul, Minnesota the son of William and Jean (Stephens) Hannah. He graduated from West High School in Minneapolis. Willie enlisted into the United States Army on August 8, 1962 and served two years in Germany as a Marksman until his honorable discharge on September 3, 1963. He returned to Minneapolis and worked briefly for the United States Post Office until joining the Sheet Metal Workers Union in Minneapolis. There he worked for Carter Day International for many years. In 1996, he went to work for the Minneapolis Convention Center and retired in 2006. In May of 2011, he moved to Owatonna to reside near his family. Willie loved his family and enjoyed watching all his grandchildren activities; he was their number one fan. He enjoyed walking, especially any trails or parks where he lived. He was also an avid sports fan of the Twins and Vikings and excelled at trivia. He is survived by his daughters, Cheri (and Mark) Spatenka of Owatonna, and Tammy (and Doug) Fincel of Grand Marais; eight grandchildren, Sara and Lauren Spatenka, Andrea, Abigayl, DJ, Emily, Jason, and Asher Fincel; honorary granddaughter, Payton; three sisters, Connie Barfield of Libby, MT, Marilyn Stevens of Hemet, CA, and Shirley (and Bill) Brinker of Lucerne Valley, CA; brother-in-law, Fred Bell of Clarkston, WA; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jack Hannah, and sister, Carole Bell. Visitation will be at Bethel Church on Thursday, October 10, 2013 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 10, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Bethel Church with The Reverend Tim Haugen officiating. Interment will be in the Dania Cemetery in Havana Township with military honors conducted by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit.
