Winifred M. Tomsicek, 95, of Owatonna, died Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Homestead Hospice House. She was born September 30, 1918 in Merton Township, Minnesota the daughter of Andrew and Nina (Hale) Yule. Winifred attended District 80 country school in Merton Township, and was then united in marriage to Edwin Tomsicek on November 30, 1944. The couple began farming together and continued to farm for sixty two years, growing sweet corn and selling it to local stores and to people who came to the farm. Winifred raised Aberdeen Angus cattle, Suffolk sheep, and Nubian goats. She also helped her children with calves and goats for 4-H projects. Winifred was a large supporter of 4-H and was named a 4-H Leader of the Year in Steele County in 1975. She enjoyed bird watching, carpentry projects on the farm, puzzles, and dogs. Edwin died December 19, 2006. She is survived by her children Clayton Tomsicek of Minneapolis, Nancy (Mark) Kovar of St. Peters, MO, and Judy Torgerson of Wabasha. She is also survived by her grandchildren Nina Kovar, Jessica Kovar, Annalee Tomsicek, Merilla Torgerson, Kelsey Torgerson, Corey Torgerson and two great grandchildren Micayla, and Tristin. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edwin, three brothers Harlan, Walter, and Gilbert, and one sister Muriel Tollefson. A gathering of friends and family will be held at Michaelson Funeral Home on Thursday February 27, 2014 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Winifred''s family would like to extend a special thanks to everyone at Park Place for all of their care over the years. Memorials are preferred to Bohemian National Cemetery or Homestead Hospice House. Michaelson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
