Zola Ann Bakken , 73, of Wanamingo, MN, formerly of Kenyon, MN, died Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Kenyon Sunset Home. She was born December 19, 1942 in Owatonna, Minnesota the daughter of Reuben and Pearl (Rasmussen) Knutson. She attended elementary school in a country school and continued her schooling in Northfield and Kenyon. She was united in marriage to Milton Bakken on November 5, 1958, at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA, and was blessed with 51 years of marriage before Milton's death. Zola and Milton made their home in Skyberg (Kenyon - West Concord area) where they raised their family. She attended Trinity Lutheran Church, Moland Lutheran Church and most recently Hegre Lutheran Church. Her primary job was raising her family. She also helped Milton in his tiling business, Milton Bakken Tiling, as a bookkeeper. She enjoyed baking cookies, donuts, and buns. She loved playing bingo with Milton, playing organ (occasionally entertaining the residents at Sunset Home), family vacations in the station wagon and motorhome, and trips to the casino to play bingo and slots. Zola had a special place in her heart for people. She opened her home to anyone who needed a shelter. She cared for her husband, Milton, and visited him every day in the care facility up to his death in 2009. She is survived by children, Nita (Robbin) Warner of Blaine, MN, Dennis (Kimberly) Bakken of Kenyon, MN, April Bakken of Brownsdale, MN, Nancy Bakken of Wanamingo, MN, Bruce Bakken of Kenyon, MN, and Chris (Tanya) Bakken of Faribault, MN; daughter in law, Dawn Bakken of Wanamingo, MN; siblings, Robert (Pat) Knutson of Ensign, KS and Margaret (Clyde) Hazelton of New Prague, MN; 21 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Milton Bakken; son, Bryne Bakken; sister, Linda Courson and brother, LeRoy Knutson. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon on Thursday from 4pm to 7pm and at the church on Friday from 1pm to 2pm. Funeral will be at 2pm Friday at Hegre Lutheran Church, rural Kenyon.
